Gabe Richard is responsible for designing, building and installing the gorgeous maple cabinets in our kitchen in Gold Coast. We considered buying high end “stock” cabinets from several of the national home improvement stores. However, none of the stock cabinets even came close to matching the uniqueness and quality that Gabe brings to his work. Gabe was able to design our cabinets in a manner reflecting our taste and style. We definitely feel that these are “our” cabinets – a feeling we would never have had if we had gone with one of the national chains. It is great to know that we will never see our cabinets hanging in someone else’s home. We were so happy with the way our cabinets turned out that we immediately hired Gabe to make a new front door for our home. Again, it gave our house a uniqueness that no other house in the neighborhood could match. Since then, we have had Gabe design and craft additional pieces of furniture for us including nightstands and a dresser, which are absolutely gorgeous. In Gabe’s attention to detail, you can clearly see that he loves his work and will always go the extra mile to see that his furniture is perfect in every way. Gabe will be creating furniture for us for a long time to come.

Michel Richard is a Master Cabinetmaker par excellence and an artist in his own right. He excels at taking a concept expressed by a client and translating that concept into superb cabinets, furniture, doors…etc. He is at his best with one-of-a-kind, unique, out of the ordinary designs. His experience is so broad that he either already knows how or is able to work out a way to create whatever a client might desire. Michel is now partners with his son Gabe, who has become a master in the same mold. (The photo on the left is some of Gabe’s work.) Gabe was fully engaged on our project, built much of the final product and we cannot tell the difference between his work and Michel’s. They are delightful people, and we are very much enjoying the work they have done for us.

We began buying custom furniture from The Woodshop in 1993. Over the years we have had four kitchens designed and built by them; Gabe was involved in the last two. Most of the furniture in our home was designed and built by Michel and Gabe too, including a wonderful bedroom suite with bed, dresser, desk and chair. In the living room we have a sofa, coffee table and rocking chair. Our office furniture, more contemporary than the rest, was built by them too. Our doors, screen doors and several built-ins were designed and built by The Woodshop as well.
Obviously we love their work. The reason we do, in addition to the design and style, is the craftsmanship. Their joinery is exceptionally precise and beautiful. Their choice of wood is exquisite. We’ve had other woodworkers visit our home and they are always impressed (amazed is more like it) by the craftsmanship of our furniture.
If our house ever catches on fire, the photos will be easy to grab, but we’ll probably go to heroic lengths to save our special furniture from The Woodshop.

When Michel and Gabe make something for you, whether it is a rocking chair, an entertainment center or a stool, you know you are going to love it. There is just no doubt. His work is always creative and beautiful. I hated to leave our old home because they had made all the doors with incredible carvings on each one.

We have the highest regard for Michel & Gabe’s woodworking. We first heard about them when we admired the cabinets they built for a friend. At the time, we were remodeling our kitchen and were about to purchase “custom” cabinets from a home improvement center. They were able to design cabinets that exactly fit our kitchen with all the features we wanted. They provided truly custom cabinets and custom service, including a freestanding china hutch for an oddly shaped corner of the room. Since then, Michel and Gabe have built cabinets, bookcases, and a trastero with hand-carved doors for our home office. They will soon be building cabinets for a remodeled bathroom.
